Will Sammes and Harry Bell obviously had some sort of premonition about what was about to happen, because they didn't turn up. Another player cried of sick at the last minute, so Purbrook started with 8 players.
James Harrison was dragged off the tennis courts to fill one of the gaps, Sam Spencer answered an SOS halfway through the second innings to fill another. Purbrook did eventually press-gang an eleventh player, but nobody ever found out what his name was.(He's down in the scorebook as A.N.Other.)
Purbrook batted (I use the term loosely) first. Ben Jones was run out in the first over, but Sam Pearce (16) and Sean Figgins (15) batted sensibly for a little while. However, it didn't last and when C.Hind took 7 wickets for 6 runs Purbrook collapsed to 48 all out.
Purbrook actually bowled pretty well led by Sam Pearce (5-21-0) and Sean Figgins (5-23-3) supported by Tom Jones and Ben Jones. However, the total was just too small o defend and Hayling won by 6 wickets in the 12th over.
Purbrook: S.Figgins, S.Pearce, B.Jones, T.Jones, M.Colban, M.Dixon, J.May, I.Budd, J.Harrison, S.Spencer, A.N.Other.
