Purbrook U15s v Emsworth 31 August 2001

Another Purbrook Victory!

Purbrook seem to have found the secret of success in the last two weeks. Part of that secret seems to be to make sure that you are bigger than the opposition and that there are more of you! Having beaten a very young Rowner side last week, Purbrook took on an Emsworth team which had only six men.

Purbrook leant Emsworth three fielders and batted first on a soft wicket in a match reduced to 16 overs each.

Sean Figgins and Sam Pearce set about exploiting the gaps in the field and ran up 111 for the first wicket in 15 overs. It looked as though both players would reach 50, but Sam Pearce was bowled on 46 trying to force the pace. Sean Figgins retired on 53 leaving Ben Jones and Ben Thomas to bat the last over and a half as Purbrook finished on 121 for 1.

Any hopes Emsworth may have had were dashed when Sam Pearce (2-19) and Ben Jones (1-13) reduced them to 13 for 2. MacLeary (36no) resisted bravely but Emsworth were 77 or 4 at the close thanks to Matt Colban (0-22), Sean Figgins (0-11) and Jack May (0-8).

Many thanks to the lads who didn't bat or bowl. It many way it was their victory more than most because Purbrook were able to ut out a full side. If it had been 6 v 6 then Purbrook might not have won.

Many thanks to the lads who fielded for Emsworth at various points: Carl Marsh, Alex Thakore, Matt Colban, Aaron Dean and Ian Budd. A special mention to Carl Marsh who fielded for the whole of each innings!

Good luck to Ben Jones who was playing his last outdoor match as a colt.

More Heroes: Sam Pearce, Sean Figgins, Ben Jones, Ben Thomas, Matt Colban, Peter Mill, Aaron Dean, Ian Budd, Carl Marsh, Jack May, Alex Thakore.
