Sunday 1st XI v Southsea 28 July 2001.

If, for Purbrook Heath, Saturday's 2nd XI match was low scoring, the Cross-Solent League game on Sunday against Southsea more than made up for it!

It started remarkably - Graham McCoy won the toss! Purbrook batted and amassed (overworked word, but I can't think of a better one in the circumstances) 291-8 in 40 overs. Jimmy Repsold was top-scorer, with 61, and there were also valuable contributions from Craig Williams, 43, Dave Cleeve, 41, and James Iles, 44.

Just in case the scoring pen hadn't had enough exercise for one day, Southsea went for it and reached 250-5 in reply, with 123 of them coming from opener Paul O'Leary.

A good afternoon's entertainment.
