Sunday 1st XI v Sarisbury

On Sunday, July 1, Purbrook went to Sarisbury for a friendly game. A 40-over contest was agreed. Purbrook won the toss and, contrary to what he had said previously, Alan Mengham decided to bat and almost everyone proceeded to take advantage of this. Purbrook finished up with an awesome 294-9. Top scorers were James Iles, making 87 form 54 balls in 70 minutes, including 14x4s and 2x6s, and Craig Williams, with 66 from 45 balls in 48 minutes, including 11x4s and 2x6s.

Sarisbury were never up with a rate like that and were all out for 189 in 36 overs. This would have looked a lot worse, but for 120n.o. from Hugh Mackenzie, including a 50-run partnership for the last wicket. Galling top make that kind of toal and finish up onthe losing side. (Shades of Neil Johnson for Hampshire on Wednesday.) Best bowling for Purbrook was from Graham Dyer, with 5-38 from his 8 overs.
