Purbrook U13s v United Services 14 October 2001

Purbrook Off To A Winning Start

An inexperienced Purbrook side took on United Services on Sunday in their first game of the indoor season. Most of the side which finished runners-up last season have moved up to the U16s, so the new-look U13s contained only 1 player (Matt Colban) who had played a competitive indoor match before.

Purbrook batted first and set off at a brisk pace thanks to good running from Matt Colban (23) and David Butler (18). After Matt Colban retired, Ben Pay came and went without troubling the scorer but Jared Carter (21) worked the ball around well and scored briskly. David Butler was run out as Purbrook lifted the pace but Carl Marsh (11) batted sensibly and Purbrook reached a creditable 105 for 2 off their 12 overs.

United Services scored quite briskly in reply but kept losing wickets at critical times. Matt Colban (2-14) clean bowled Frazer and Gray. He then ran out Young and Lewis and caught Canal off Ben Pay. Craig Marsh took a fine catch off Ben Pay (2-8) to remove Jackson.

United Services were all out for 58 in 6 overs.

Purbrook: Matt Colban, David Butler, Jared Carter, Carl Marsh, Ben Pay, Craig Marsh.
