Gosport bat first, and there was drama in the first over as two Purbrook fielders collide going for the same catch. It wasn’t until the fourth over that Gosport lost their first wicket, opener Gravells bowled by Colban, 27 off 4. By the tenth over Gosport were 53 for 2, Jenkins caught and bowled off Colban. The eleventh over went for 7 runs and the twelfth went for13! Purbrook got the game back on course and by the fourteenth over Gosport had lost three more wickets, and for no runs added, 73 for 5. With the bowling kept tight and some outstanding work in the field by Carter (George to the Team) Purbrook took wicket number 6 in the seventeenth, and Gosport had only put on 8 runs. Nineteenth over and Gosport lost Batsman number 7; the twentieth over saw wicket number 8. Gosport only added 21 runs to their score in the last eight overs this is what wins matches. Gosport finished their innings 91 for 8.
With the amount of runs Purbrook have put on the board in recent games they looked favourite to take this game. Mistake number one, Middleton ran out in the first over, and he was not happy! Thomas and Haran start to selvedge the situation until Haran was ran out, 29 for 2 off 5. Purbrook had only added 10 when fourth man Jones, was bowled by Gravells for nought, 39 for 3 off 7. Purbrook were up with the run rate when Colban and Thomas got dismissed in the eighth over, 48 for 5 off 8. Alan Figgins (coach) told seventh man Bennett settle in and see the game out; we’re still up on the run rate. Nice try coach, second ball and Bennett obviously settled in at the crease smashed a four. Tenth over and Butler was bowled for nought, 57 for 6. Eighth man in was Budd and to stop the coach having a heart attack he settled Bennett who went on to retire at 25 not out, 63 for 6 off 11. Twelfth over and Purbrook needed just 22 runs from the remaining 8 overs and had 4 wickets in hand. Credit to Gosport they did not give up, and Purbrook crumbled to 75 all out in the thirteenth. Purbrook finished 75 all out.
