2nd XI v Steep 9 June 2001 (at Steep).

Purbrook II's game against Steep on June 9 started slowly. Put into bat by Steep, Purbrook managed only 59-1 after 26 overs, but then Grant Wooley (75) and Trevor Pay (85) found the accelerator pedal and put on 168 for the second wicket. Purbrook finished on 193-3.

In reply, Steep went off like steam trains and were cruising at 118-3 after 26 overs, when Mike Burriows hit a purple patch, taking 3 wickets in 4 balls in the next over, followed by 2 wickets with the last 2 balls of his next over. He finished with 5-40. Wyman Babbage polished off the last two Steep batsmen, leaving them 144 all out in the 34th over and giving Wyman figures of 4-36.

Wicketkeeper Clive Hopgood took 3 catches and Alan Brown took one for what he said was only the second time in 15 years in the position he was in, which was not one where the batsman was expecting a fielder.
